Life in Lille-Part10

I was a bad boy when I stayed in Lille.

One night after came back from Brussels, I took a night train from the Gare de Lille. At the time, I entered the station without buying the ticket because I did several times as other Lillois.

The jackpot had hit to me. When I was approaching the second-to-last targeted station, the officials flew into the train to check the train ticket. Of course, I was a pirate, no ticket in my pocket.

When one official walked to me, and said 'Please show your ticket please'. I pretended to rummage into my pockets and purse and replied him back I lost it somewhere.

He didn't believe it and invited me to go outside the train. The negotiation and drama started.

I tried to pretend once more that I actually had it but lost. I showed all used tickets I had but no better impact.

He eventually decided to offer the highest fine rate to me. But I asked him about another rate which was lower around 10-15 euro.

We talked rather long and ended with paying fine in the moderate severity, not highest. Maybe he had little mercy when he saw my used tickets that indicated I did not do like this very often.

Anyway, thanks to him and this experience, I was sad. On the other hand, that taught me, you had to be a good man in every place where you are. Otherwise, counter bad effect will destroy and attack you.

Will never do it.

Life in Lille-Part9

I daresay I may be only one Thai who knows best about Lille. I discovered the city all routes and alleys. I visited all big and small places. I joined the sacred ceremony. I was a host when my Thai friends visited my city, Lille.

I was very proud of being this city citizen. Even it's small, peace and nature are its charm. Cathedral, churches, museums, gallery, banks, supermarkets, mini-marts, cafe, hotels. schools, OFI office are the examples where I attended.

When my friends saw Lille, they said this city is very cute and people here are very friendly. While we were taking a photo together, strange girls came to join us to have a nice photo. No border of nation, here.

What I missed is Opera. In the future, I would like to visit this city and enter Opera to appreciate heaven melody. See you Lille ^^

Business ThinkTank No.15- Self-prepared bento

This bento is allowing users to design their meals by themselves through smart web application. Customers have to register to the system and in turn are able to arrange their breakfast/lunch.

Again, customers are required to be local users near the pick-up stand. This business offers the new experience of food as well as enjoyment of virtual cooking.

Business ThinkTank No.14- Air plane business model to other business platforms

When we book the air tickets more beforehand, the large amount of discount will offer to us happily. In short, the more advanced you reserve a seat, the more you obtain percent discount.

Hence, if we apply this idea to other business, it may works most prospectively.

Like, I sell musical instrument but would not like to keep the stocks if there is no order. Well, I will develop the website where customers can place their order. If they order a product in advance for 2 weeks. 20% discount is benefit. Less attractive, if they order the same product but time to receive the product is nearer, less discount is offered.

Customers have to pick up their orders at the shop by themselves. In this respect, the business is focusing on local customers, reducing inventory/delivery cost, even less profit margin but worth to experimenting.

Business ThinkTank No.13-Brand Management for Fruit Wagan

Normally we see many fruit wagons around the city of Bangkok. Most of them are selling fruits that I think they're not clean and best. That means the opportunity is there.

I would like to promote the brand over this business by stressing quality and cleanliness. And change look of this business by offering some member cards or recycle container for frequent buyers. As such, customers can get the discount percentage and at the same time environment has been preserved by reducing to use plastic containers/bags.

Brand management can also apply to other businesses. Just open your eyes, look around and make little consideration. We'll find opportunity is abundant.

Business ThinkTank No.12-The self-weighed luggage

Always, international students or long-stayed persons face up a problem when they are going back to their country. That problem is luggage's weight.

To solve that circumstance, they simply buy a new weight scale so that they can make sure that weight doesn't excess allowed weight capacity. They use it one time and leave it. That weight scale costs them some amount, around 200-300 baht.

So, if we can invent some device that implement into luggage, that would be a good idea. They do not need to worry about their luggage's weight anymore, both departure and arrival.

Nevertheless, so far I have no idea such that equipment, just some characteristics that should be featured. For instance, light-weight, durability, easy-to-read.

This is most prospective business that I am seeking out the answer.

Business ThinkTank No.11-Vendor Machine Shop

As I stayed in Japan for 5 months, I could see many vendor machines standing at various places and the products sold are ranging from water to umbrella.

In Thailand, even though doing this sort of business may pose some risks to entrepreneurs, if good management and prevention are put in place. I believe there is a big gap of profit waiting for someone to bait the grand success in this regard.

To me, I may find a dedicated shop to put diverse vendor machines. Customers may feel free to buy things from machines rather that directly from seller in some cases.

One Font Appearance For All Diverse Web Browsers

This is may a small thing that we as a web developer perhaps overlook it.

If we are building up the English-based website. The following manner of xHTML coding shoude be adopted, otherwise the font appearance may distract from its determined code.

At html tag, we should identify obviously which language is most influential to that certain page. Aside from that, `charset` under tag of Meta may put "utf-8" rather than "ISO-8859-1". This charset has large coverage in terms of language support.

The example is demononstrated as below,

<html lang="en" xml:lang="en" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<meta equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">

If we creat a new html file from Dreamweaver, The html tag will just merely show
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">. That does not include lang attribute.

Life in Lille-Part8

When spring season visited Lille, people were very enjoyable and vivid to do fun activity outside their residence. I was too welcome to this nice atmosphere, sunny bright sky together with cozy mind air and breezy cool wind passed my cheek slowly. Flocks of Animals, bunches of trees and mass of flowers collectively showed up their spectacle feature to passers-by like me.

The flower festival invited tons of people to get and buy in. The amusement parks displayed extraordinary fun and extreme excitement to lovely dear kids and their parents. Grand happiness were conjured by this splendid season.

I never forget that picturesque scene. Le printemps en France. C'est super.

Business ThinkTank No.10-The discount for reducing plastic containers

I have to calculate the cost of premiums giving to the beneficiary against the cost we can save from reducing plastic consumption. For example, if the customer bring his/her own container to take food or beverage from sellers, the accumulating points could provide to or discounting price could offer to.

One time of refraining from plastic baggage, one point to be obtained and ten points to gain the certain benefit.

Green business is my intention.

Business ThinkTank No.9- Thai Underdeveloped Food

There are many Thai food still lacking adding value to themselves. Like, Moo-Ping, Thai grilled pork. This kind of food is still underdeveloped. I believe we can change the way to serve the customers and rearrange the way to deliver such packaging as good-looking boxes, clean equipment, appropriate size of meat.

The soybean/wheat bean beverage could have a new container to give a new extraordinary experience to the customers. Or we can attach the beneficial information to buying customers. This can advance to be the complete breakfast set to the blue collar workforce who frequently have less time to prepare their meal.

Life in Lille-Part7

Night life at Lille is very romantic. The several French restaurants and bars where are always crowded with French young students who come to relax and exchange their talk are shining its attraction with the soft tone lanterns.

When I had a journey out of Lille, I often came back to Lille at night and passed the grand avenue decorated with beautiful architecture. Serenity and beauty of my lady town are such good mixture for bursting happiness and enjoyment. Cold weather sometimes caused me to desire someone to walk along with me but at that time I at least had one as my lovely partner. It's you, Lille. My lady who always condoles me, talks to me with delicate care through your beauty even you are speechless.

French alimentation and scent of excellent wine are the proper component to cast every night in France to become the fairly land. If include snow fall ingredient, the perfect night will expose to me. Je l'aime, France! et toi aussi, Lille.

Business ThinkTank No.8- internet-based Recycle Store

I would like to probably initiate a new social business model. This idea may allow me to reach the goal closer.

The concept is to let members who registers in the system based on the high sofisticated web technology. The member needs to deposit garbages or renewable/recycle materials to the company. The benefit that the member will obtain is a product derived from their own deposited junks. Each product requires the amount of raw materials differently. The member can select or a recipe to get his/her outcome recycle product. Or they can submit the product to the company to upload this product as a yield for other members. The member can also join the account to fasten the complete set of materials required.

The most cautious issue is falling into the cost of transportation. How does the company collect the garbage from the members? How does the company afford enough recycle products? This question needs possible solutions before launching in the real market.

Business ThinkTank No.7- Experienced Shops

When someone are demonstrating of playing or using something, we are likely to consent to do like that. This basic observation is leading me to open the shop that invites the professionals who is involved in the business. For instance, if operate the musical business, I may dedicate some spaces to the musicians to compose their melody which aims at attracting audience. Then audience might will become musician and finally buy some products to practice at their home. This practical experienced store is easily to generate the desirability of customers even though they may not have such strong aspiration to do it.

How to Integrate Sphider Search to the Website.

Sphider is the php-based search engine which allows anyone to modify and manage the searching index and eliminate the logo advertisement like google or yahoo. To set up the Sphider tool is more or less difficult but requires a little patience and time if you follow my instruction below.

Preset
I) Suppose your web directory is c:\xampp\htdocs\
II) That means your index.php must be put in this directory.
III) Then download source code here, Sphider. IV) Copy the whole Sphider folder to the directory mentioned earlier. Now you're to add the Sphider power to your webpage
(index.php).

1) Create new php file and name it, say,
mysearch.php and paste it at the same directory as index.php

2) Open file
index.php to edit and paste this following code to where you would like to place search box

<form action="mysearch.php" method="get">
<input name="query" id="query" size="20" value="" type="text">
<input value="Search" type="submit">
<input name="search" value="1" type="hidden">
</form>

3) Open file search.php which locates at c:\xampp\htdocs\sphider\

4) Copy the whole code from this file (search.php) to mysearch.php
(locate the code where you would like to show the search result) and we have to alternate some variables in this file as follows.

mysearch.php
from $include_dir = "./include";
to $include_dir = "./sphider/include";

From $include_dir = "./include";
$template_dir = "./templates";
$settings_dir = "./settings";
$language_dir = "./languages";

To $include_dir = "./sphider/include";
$template_dir = "./sphider/templates";
$settings_dir = "./sphider/settings";
$language_dir = "./sphider/languages";

5) Open commonfuncs.php file which stays at c:\xampp\htdocs\sphider\include and add some texts to array $include as below.

From
$includes = array('./include', 'include', '../include');
To
$includes = array('./include', 'include', '../include','sphider/include', './sphider/include', '../sphider/include');

6) Open file search_results.html which is C:\xampp\htdocs\sphider\templates\standard and adjust the php action at line8 as below.

From

To

7) At the same directory (C:\xampp\htdocs\sphider\templates\standard), open search_form.html file and edit the line 6 as follows.

From
<form action="search.php" method="get">
To
<form action="mysearch.php" method="get">

8) Almost done, let's create the database for it. So, go to ,in this case, PhpMyAdmin and create sql database ,say, "spider" (please refer to sql document of how to create a database)

9) Use exit to exit MySQL and in C:\xampp\htdocs\sphider\settings, edit database.php file and change $database, $mysql_user, $mysql_password and $mysql_host to correct values (if you don't know what $mysql_host should be, it should probably stay as it is - 'localhost').

10. Open install.php script (admin directory) in your browser(i.e. http://localhost/sphider/admin/install.php), which will create the tables necessary for Sphider to operate.

11. Open admin/admin.php in browser and start indexing. (i.e. http://localhost/sphider/admin/admin.php) Remark: Default username/password is admin/admin

12) Click add site and fill in the required information in correspondence with your web parameters. And click add button when complete it.

13) Click Options to start indexing

14) Click side menu at "Index"

15) Change the depth of indexing and accept the setting by pressing "Start indexing" button

16) At column "Last indexed" will be stamped the date. It implies that configuration is complete.

17) Now you're ready to use the Sphider Power! Start the index.php and test the function.

Remark: I also upload all changed files in Sphider folder and the finished index.php and mysearch.php that you can compare the configuration in between.

Life in Lille-Part6

My leisure time in Lille was spent on wandering around Lille zoo and Citadel several many times. These two places are situated next to each other in the same big park, and near my residence as well . I like to go there because brother Monkeys always made me laugh on his funny behavior. People surrounded their home and taking the ridiculous pictures as a souvenir from this zoo. Also, we can see peacocks at close range. Moreover, if in the weather transition to autumn, we will be majestically enticed by the elegant peacock tail. So very awesome.

Further, there is a tropical hut where we can meet the ancestor-aged turtle and rare animals and at outside the open zoo offers us free-show of cute animals i.e. parrots, snow-owl, ducks, red-panda, etc. Leave off the zoo, we can borrow a electric bike to take a tour around the city or have more challenge by playing the one-seg (one-wheel bicycle) which I haven't ridden yet.

Miss it, my heaven.

Business ThinkTank No.6, Kanji Air Reader

As I stay in Japan, coping with the dizzy unknown Kanji everyday. I have one adds-on installed over FireFox browser, called Rikaichan. This useful plugin will help me read and translate the unfamiliar Kanji by moving a mouse pointer to the Kanji target.

If I could combine this idea with mobile gadget, how wonderful it is? I just open my camera mode in the cell phone and glare at the Kanji object. On the mobile's screen, the Hiragana and translation display in front of my eyesight. If succeed, it can extend to other languages. But sophisticated technology is a must like Image Processing, and avalanche of dictionary database.

Life in Lille Part 5

Regarding train-ticket buying, we have two major options: buy from the counter in person or from the Internet.

The former has no choice of receiving a ticket. When complete buying process, right away obtain a ticket from a officer. The latter provides you several selection to get a ticket reserved and paid.

Firstly, we can demand SNCF to deliver a ticket by mail. This choice may take time depanding on destination. Secondly, print a ticket by ourselves. Very convenient and sure, this approach responses an order and complete a procedure at one-stop service(at our computer's screen). In this way, the company can reduce ticket issue cost. At the same time, it can increase customer satisfaction due to being able to have a ticket immediately. Nevertheless, high-end technology of monitoring counterfeit tickets may require.

Lastly, Le retrait en gare, receive a ticket at train station. Must inform a reservation ID and identity, afterwards offered a ticket by a officer or ticket vending machine, the yellow one (can choose languages). The latter needs to insert a credit card used for paying a ticket.

With alternative choices proposed in acquiring tickets, we have very freedom to travel with SNCF indeed!

Business ThinkTank No.4, Object Lost Reminder

When we go abroad, due to stunning with the unfamiliar environment we may forget our luggages or any belongings. To have a device which help us scan the precious items may ensure that the trip would go without anxiety.

This apparatus will receive the RFID signal attached to designated things and show the result on the screen. Alternately, I may mix up the SIM card technology and wireless network for domestic locations and RFID and mobile applications for overseas.

With this solution, we just click on one button -check up belongings- as a result, we can see which items are in our reach or missing.

Business ThinkTank No.3, Eraser Gloves

When I studied in the classroom, I observed most teachers like to erase texts on backboards with their bare hands. If he/she would like to use a computer or touch a thing after getting colored, it may not be suitable to proceed it right now. (a teacher may has to go to a washroom and clean his/her hands).

Thus, having an instant eraser attached to their hands may contribute some convenience to our teachers. A material used should work well with particles like chalk or inks and offer easy-to-clean feature to customers.

Business ThinkTank No.2, Squeezing machines for rubber trees

I once had a talk with my friend who owns the farmland of rubber trees in Chumporn, Thailand. He suggested me that labor force to cut the trunks to get the liquid rubber is lacking seriously. To counter this trouble, we may need an automatic machine to do this job for humans. Absolutely, the prospect of this business is very viable.

Business ThinkTank No.1, e-Yummy

e-Yummy: The green online food delivery service for white/blue collar employees. This business is offering breakfast and lunch meals to persons who are working around business arcade. The area in service would be determinedly bordered so that the business could mitigate risks of overtime delivery as well as cost of transportation.

Furthermore, the business is promoting reused containers by providing a pair of boxes per customer to circulate the order between the current and the next. Customers can arrange their food sets through the business's website. Other attractive features would be introduced to customers constantly while operating. For instance, notes for giving knowledge or care to customer's health.

Life in Lille - Part 4

Bonjour,

After talking about supermarkets in France, let me narrate you transportation infrastructure. Mass transportation in Europe is largely developed, notably train interlink networks across states as well as nations. Definitely in France, we have to spot on the fastest train, TGV (Train Grand Vitesse) operating around France and some flights are rocketing to the countries like Switzerland, Germany, Austria, etc.

When I decided to having voyage, TGV is the first choice to get me to destinations and it impressed me unforgettably. It didn't mean not only good aspects such as comfort and quickness, but also bad experiences such as labor strike causing me to rehabilitate the trip plan.

There are many methods to receive a train ticket. I will detail it later on in the next post.

Life in Lille -Part3

There are many variety of supermarkets in France. I may just put forth the main stores.

First, the popular one is Carrefour which break down into many sort of their supermarkets, notably Carrefour Market and Carrefour City. Carrefour Market sells more goods, including home appliance, books, etc. than Carrefour City emphasizing on food. If you just need some instrument or food that does not torture your wallet while maintaining quality moderately, Voila your choice is here.

Second, Monoprix is the prestigious supermarket chain in France. Of course, prices quoting are more expensive than its counterparts, nonetheless; we are more assured in quality of products. You can find products like clothing and food but not as much as Carrefour.

Third, Casino group, presenting in various entities like Casino petit, Leader price. In fact Monoprix is one of Casino group as well but I would like to distinguish this group from Monoprix which does not aim at only food retailer. You can find the cheapest price by rummaging products labeled by a picture of yellow cartoonish banknote. According to my experience, quality is very low. Hence, next solution may be right for you.

Last but not least, Audi shop, not selling Cars! I am rather satisfied with this shop if wanna buy food. Price is very very cheap as compared to Carrefour. If you would like to secure your monthly expense, this is the right choice meeting your need. Audi, I'm your fan! lol

Life in Lille -Part 2

The first day in Lille was like a new born to me.

My eye was caught by the aesthetically decorative building and cool environment. I floated my mind along with grand beauty of nature existing in front of me, Snow. I couldn't stand stopping my burning desire to discover the city with the exciting feet.

Having walked and walked, took tons of photos around the city, next day,I got warm welcome from EDHEC student association, OpenUp. They invited me to have a nice dinner with them and joined the small discussion in the small bar. I started to make friends with other international students.

Voila, EDHEC school and supermarkets were also in my range of searching on the day later. I was very excited to begin the semester in France. This was the first time of study overseas to me. Unbelievably, I was standing in Europe? And moreover in France?

I learned how to arrive at school and went shopping in various sort of supermarkets. Each super market was proposing the slight difference in price to their customers. When I surveyed food and household products rowing on shelves neatly, I got stunned with the Euro-based tags seriously.

I called this feeling, Euro sensitive, in the extent to which the sense of buying things is prohibited abruptly while converting prices into local currency. My case is Thai Baht. I chose to have food which were not too expensive. Nonetheless, they were still more expensive than Thailand, except the dairy products like Yogurt, Milk, Bread, Jam, etc. I had to learned and altered my style of having food. Aligning and embracing European food culture into my plate might be a good idea in order to learn their tradition and reduce cost of living somehow.

Hence, elaborating supermarkets in France is noteworthy.

Life in Lille - Part 1

If one defines a heaven is the land of happiness, so I may call Lille as my fall-in-love heaven.

Lille is the main city of the north region in France, Nord Pas de Calais. This city is the central hub linking between British Kingdom, Belgium as well as of course France. It takes 1 hour from here to Paris, the lovely romantic city of the world.

I had an impressive experience in spending the great time on my study of MBA in this city which is abundant with the ambitious school girls and boys, notably studying in Catholic University. Even if the period of study was very short, 4 months, I thought I really love this town profoundly indeed.

I arrived at Lille on Jan 5th 2010, while it was in white snowy winter season. The city welcomed me by osmosis of kindness with the picturesque scenery. The day after arrival, snowfall was joyfully present to me through the window in my small room. I was stuck with this white magic and let time goes by intentionally.

This is the beginning of my adventure in Lille.
