Why it's hidden, Analysis Toolkit-Data Analysis and Solver in Excel!
To recall it, you must integrate them into your menu bar by clicking Add in for Excel2003 or Clicking Office Logo at Top-Left corner of application,(please see more in Help). For 'Solver', it's very useful when you have to make a decision which is difficult to find the best result. In real-life, if every problems can be written down into equation, it's easy for your life to have a good assistant to help you solve complex messes.
I learnt this tool during MBA program at SOM in Qualitative Method course. I was impressed at its benefits such as, optimization function which will find the best way to acheive your goal at final stage. Interestingly, it can solve a discrete optimizaton, answer is integer or binary, which you may encounter in career life or study.
However, it is not the best application of analysis tool due to limitation of some functions and not being built in particular purpose to solve the complicated formulas. Moreover, the result in the case of non-linear equation is not quite exact, approximately.
In brief, it is one of the effective tool to deal with simple/moderate problems. Tolerating its error in some cases, it may help you to save time in searching another one to cope up with your troubles. If so, Solver should be taken into your mind whenever you would like to decide what way you will move on and find out the optimal solutions.
See you next time.
